School Holiday Break
We wish the whole of the PHES family a well-deserved break.
Birthdays are special days at Pikkewyntjies calling for celebration and fun. The birthday flags go up, the boys usually want nothing to do with the birthday crown but they enjoy wearing a party hat. Some of the girls really like dressing up and posing for their photographs but we’re all different. Some just like to wear the birthday crown and reign quietly over the party. It’s the birthday Pikkewyntjies’s choice.
There’s always a cake - with candles and it has to be big enough for every Pikkewyntjie to enjoy a slice of iced, featherlight deliciousness. Sometimes a mom will bake it, sometimes Louise will. Everyone gathers around to watch Juffrou Zaan strike a match and light the candles. When they are burning well, she leads the singing of “Veels geluk liewe maatjie” which everyone sings with gusto. Then comes tea time and eating - what a very good idea birthday cake is.
