School Holiday Break
We wish the whole of the PHES family a well-deserved break.
After many delays due to wind and rain and stock shortages, our Pikkewyntjies have their very own 5-star jungle gym in their playground. When I asked one of the teachers whether they were enjoying it, she said ‘Hulle is mal daaroor’. That says it all, I think.
The usual way is to go to a supplier and order a pre-designed jungle gym. However, because our sponsors had been so very generous, the supplier and the contractor could help us with a design of our own to fit neatly into our playground and a range of activities to suit our children of varying ages. Apart from the fun of putting together something Zaan wants so badly, what a treat it was not to be limited by cost at every turn and what a marvellous gym we have thanks to our sponsors.
Why have a jungle gym, what value does it add?
Apart from fun and games? It builds upper body strength in children who get little exercise, and it builds confidence in timid souls, and it teaches teamwork because two-year-olds can’t get onto the ladder without a bit of help from older schoolmates.
These sponsors don’t live here and in fact have never seen the school, but they’ve heard about it, and they want to support the remarkable work it does. They have certainly done that and our hearts go out to them in gratitude.
