Elonwabeni Child and Family Centre was established in November 2006 by Denise and Rolf Landes, along with a group of friends from Germany. Together, they started a partnership with KinderAIDShilfe SA Foundation to support young adults and children in the foster care system.
In the beginning, the primary objective was to support children who were abandoned or orphaned due to HIV / AIDS by building a child and family centre in Mitchells Plain. Elonwabeni has developed four centres in Mitchells Plain and one independent living centre in Botrivier due to its success.
Elonwabeni means happiness which intertwines with their ultimate goal: to protect, nurture and develop these beautiful souls into happy and active leaders within communities.

Elonwabeni Child and Family Centre aim to play a pivotal role in:
Elonwabeni Child and Family Centre offer different workshops and programmes to empower previously disadvantaged children to become active, healthy and happy members within the community.
A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step, which is why Elonwabeni assists children and young adults who have experienced traumatising events and lived in challenging environments.
They receive counselling and training sessions to empower and teach them to be active people in their communities.
This workshop is designed to aid young girls who have continuously lost their loved ones. Here, ladies are able to speak about their feelings and frustrations to move forward and strengthen old family ties that may have seemed lost at some point in time.
The core goal of this programme is to strengthen and boost family bonds. Elonwabeni works closely with different families and communities to identify an opportunity for where children can be reconnected and rekindled with their families and communities.
This programme beads the rest when it comes to providing a quality handcraft service to local and international visitors.
Women from local communities are employed to accentuate their wire and bead skills by generating an income via this handcraft. Many unique and high-quality products have been sold abroad in Germany.
Walkerbay Cleaning & Laundry Services employs young adults from Elonwabeni to increase their knowledge and skills for tons of other working environments that await them in the world.
This laundry business in Botrivier trains and supports these talented young adults every step of the way.
