The Caledon Museum is truly honoured to have been invited to be part of this memorable occasion.
On Friday 21 October 2022, the Overberg Region Museums hosted the final round of the English School Speech Competition at the Antoinette Events, Bredasdorp. Local high school students showcased their public speaking skills, while raising audience awareness on the power of museums and the importance of their mission to educate the public.
The event was held in Bredasdorp, where sixteen participants from a number of Overberg high schools competed against each other. A performance by the talented Bredasdorp High School choir led by Ms Simone Rossouw who also spoke at the event, brought the contest to life with their renewed energy and infectious rhythm. Amanda Gouws (Bredasdorp) was announced as the winner of the Overberg Regional Speech Competition. The second place winner was Simone van Wyk (Montague) and third place went to Ashton Joemat (Bredasdorp). By hosting these speech competitions, the Overberg Regional Museum supports and inspires a diverse community committed to empowering students through competitive speech and debate.
We would like to thank all museum event coordinators, speech contest judges as well as the Deputy Director, Ms Lorelle Hutton and Museum Regional Manager, Ms Odette Weir who contributed towards the success of the event.
