POPI Act
Are you inundated by text messages or emails claiming to have a special offer for you, or a miraculous investment opportunity, or claiming that you have won a prize- often without ever having entered a competition or general offers to incur debt or offering loans to you? The POPI act will soon come to your rescue when it will put a stop to organizations burdening you with spam, and instead of being given the option to "opt-out" (from unsolicited emails or messages you never even subscribed to), suppliers may then only send one message or email with the option to "opt-in" instead. Section 45 of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act, organizations who make unsolicited calls to you, are obliged to disclose where they got your information from. The POPI act will introduce some changes which will entitle the recipient to complain to the information regulator.
