Management and Conservation of Shark Species by South Africa
Marine Dynamics/ Dyer Island Conservation Trust welcomes the announcement from The Minister of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries, Ms Barbara Creecy, that a panel has been appointed to review the management and conservation of shark species by South Africa.
As per press release: The appointment of the Panel is in response to public concern about shark populations along the coast and the change in the distribution of Great White Sharks and the resultant increase in conflict between fishers and tourism operators.
The matter is now of public interest and our hundreds of emails, meetings attended and petitions are finally having some results. The panel is expected to start in June and be wrapped up by October this year. We truly hope we will see some positive shark conservation action from this.
