Taking the plunge. Brew coffee at home.
Trying something new is always a bit daunting, getting your coffee fix shouldn't be. Over the next few blogs, we will take the plunge and discuss brewing coffee at home.
We will focus on brewing equipment, starting off with the French Press Bodum, also known as the plunger.
A few things that we would later delve into is our coffee grind size, type of roast, extraction methods, etc. However, our main focus would always be the smile on your face while enjoying your coffee.
Let's start with the plunger.
Step one:
Boil kettle and prep serving station.
Step two:
Measure out coffee and keep separate.
Step three:
Rinse plunger with boiled water, use water to heat up cups.
Step four:
Throw ground coffee in plunger and wet coffee with boiled water. Just pour enough water on to wet all the coffee grounds. Let it stand for thirty seconds, this is called blooming.
Step five:
Add the rest of the water and stir for thirty seconds.
Step six:
Allow coffee grounds to settle and put a sieve on top, let the coffee steep for three minutes.
Step seven:
Throw out water in cups (see step three) and plunge coffee. Serve coffee immediately and fill a flask with extra coffee. Do not let the coffee steep in the plunger as this will over-extract your brew leaving your coffee bitter.
Enjoy and savour the moment!
