GANSBAAIERS URGED TO JOIN NURDLE CLEAN-UP
A large amount of nurdles washed up beyond the Gansbaai coast yesterday.
Beaches most affected are Bluewater Bay, Castle Beach and the beach at Pearly Beach Resort towards Soetfontein (Skippie).
THIS IS AN URGENT CALL TO VOLUNTEERS who are available today to help pick up the nurdles. CLEAN-UP OPERATION WILL START AT THE RESORT IN PEARLY BEACH.
Nurdles are small plastic pellets about the size of a lentil. They are the raw material which nearly all our plastic products are made from.
Please do not discard the nurdles in Municipal waste bins. Wheelie bins will be placed in Pearly Beach as collection point. Nurdle bags/containers (with the location where you have picked them up) can be dropped off at the Gansbaai Tourism office or the Fire Brigade in Gansbaai.
To collect nurdles, please bring a SIEVE (to separate nurdles from the sand) and a BUCKET (most nurdles and microplastic will float in water, so a quick way to separate them from sand can be to simply put the collected nurdles, sand and debris in a bucket of water and scoop off the plastic fragments from the top placing them).
