An Interview with Gansbaai’s Pastor Frikkie Zeelie (S.H.A.R.E)
“Recently we sat down with Pastor Frikkie Zeelie to find out a little more about the man behind Gansbaai NPO, S.H.A.R.E. S.H.A.R.E is a non-profit organisation that assists underprivileged residents and communities in and around Gansbaai by way of various projects that include a soup kitchen, housing assistance, education for early learners and rehabilitation assistance for those who seek positive change in their lives.”
Where are you from originally Pastor Zeelie?
Before I moved to Gansbaai I lived in Springs, Gauteng.
What did you do there?
I worked for a company in the fresh produce market, selling fresh products.
How did you end up serving the community?
Just like so many good stories begin, I was called by God to work for the community in need. At first, I did my work anonymously. I was still working at the produce market at that stage. Anyway, I would make food hampers for people I knew were having a hard time and then deliver them to their door, knock and run off before they could see me. This work really inspired me to do more.
Why do you do what you do?
I have stared poverty in the face and know what it is like to have nothing. Nobody deserves that. Also, it is God’s word that we need to look after people who are unable to look after themselves.
What makes you happy?
I really love it when people smile, from the heart. When people realise somebody cares and that they can be helped. I guess you could say it is the face of appreciation that makes me happy.
What makes you sad?
Selfishness really gets me down. Giving is so important, not only for those who receive but for the person who is willing to share what they can. The blessings just shower down on you when you continue to share.
How can we make the world a better place?
By sharing. Whether it is love, material things or just a hand when it is needed most. Sharing, and caring for each other…
Do you have a dream for the future?
Well, my dream always stays the same, and that is to help more people! But, if you want me to be more specific, S.H.A.R.E would like to open an assisted living centre for the elderly. Our community desperately needs it, and the only way to make this dream a reality will be by receiving assistance from the public. We are hoping for a miracle…
