West Coast Rock Lobster Season 2022 / 2023
The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment has allocated 12 days between the 16th of December 2022 and the 9th of April 2023 for the crayfish season. Let’s celebrate the seven-day stretch between Christmas and New Year, and cross our fingers and toes for perfect ocean and weather conditions!
Permit Cost
• R94 for one seasonal crayfish permit (available at your local post office)
Crayfishing Dates
• 16 December 2022 - 17 December 2022 (two days)
• 24 December 2022 (one day)
• 26 December 2022 - 1 January 2023 (seven days)
• 8 April 2023 - 9 April 2023 (one day)
Catch Rules
1. Only persons over the age of twelve may obtain a recreational WCRL permit
2. WCRL may be caught between 08:00 and 16:00 daily
3. Bag limit of four WCRL per day
4. Permit holders can be in possession of no more than four WCRL per day
5. WCRL size restriction is eighty (80) millimetres of carapace length
6. No person catching WCRL with a recreational fishing permit shall sell their catch
7. Any WCRL caught, collected, or transported must be kept in a whole state
