About

Petro adopted her artistic name “Shingalana” from a young female lioness which she painted early on in her career as an artist which began in 1993.

Each year Petro would challenge herself to learn something new by completing a course and it was in this time that she saw an advert for an art course that was being offered in Muizenberg. Her art teacher was astonished to discover that Petro had never had any previous training and had in fact never drawn or painted before. Charcoal was her first medium of choice and later she moved on to oil paints.

Highlights in Petro’s interesting career include:

  • Teaching art to trauma patients and prisoners
  • Owning her own art gallery in Tulbagh
