From Friday 30 September to Sunday 2 October is the date set for the annual Hermanus Whale Festival held in the world’s best land-based whale watching town, right here in Hermanus.
Now in its 31st year, the Hermanus Whale Festival celebrates the annual visit of the southern right whales to the Cape Whale coastline. It is also the only Eco Marine festival in the world. Each day the blare of the Whale Crier’s horn alerts visitors to the fact that a whale has been sighted and visitors flock to see the incredible sight of the massive mammals slap their tails and wave their fins or even better yet, leap right out of the water as they breach once, twice, or sometimes as many as six times.
The town will put on its festive jacket for the 80 000+ visitors who will listen to the live music and outdoor entertainment. Visitors can look forward to eco marine exhibitions and talks a fun trail adventure race or browse at the arts and craft markets all the while the whales frolic further afield. And don’t forget a great menu selection from the 25 food vendors and a beer tent with live entertainment at Gearings point.
The Hermanus Whale Festival is jam-packed with events: Eco-marine exhibitions and talks; 45 Craft Stalls; Treasure Hunt for kiddies; Outdoor games for teens by the football foundation; Street parade with classic cars; Battle of the DJ’s; 10km Fun Whale Trail; Kiddies’ rides; Whales-n-Wheels Classic Car Show; Host of more activities and stalls.
The Cape Whale Coast, the Overstrand community and the Hermanus Whale Festival organising committee welcome all visitors and residents to the 31st year of the Hermanus Whale Festival.
