The following is a summary of the Cleanup Campaign that was executed and Championed by Mr Mbuyiseli Madikane, Environmental Health Practitioner from the Hermanus Sub-district Office (Overberg District Municipality - Environmental Health):

Overberg District Municipality received complaints of illegal dumping, rats’ infestation and storm water pollution in Zwelihle Township and thus decided to initiate the Cleanup Campaign to promote health and cleanliness in our communities.

Meetings were held with potential Stakeholders e.g. Overstrand Municipality, Zwelihle Health and Welfare Committee, Whale Coast Conservation, Tedcor, etc. to plan the implementation of the Campaign.

The  cleaning  of the Township started on the 29 June 2015, in Tshepe Tshepe, Wag ‘n Bietjie and Ziphunzane Informal Settlements and carried on for the rest of the week to Mandela Square,  Ezizeni,  Transit Camp, Asazani, finishing with Sandbaai Informal Settlement.

As the cleaning started on the 29 June, the Campaign started on the 30th June and finished on the 03 July 2015.

With  the involvement of Overstrand Local Municipality, Department of Environmental Affairs and Woolworths, our Campaign was a huge success.
