At  about 04:15 on Wednesday Gansbaai SAPS members received information to be on the lookout for a White Polo, that  is  on  its way from Buffeljags area to Gansbaai with abalone on board.

The vehicle was spotted on the R43 road at Franskraal in the direction to Gansbaai.   The members tried to stop the vehicle several times without success and a high speed chase ensued.   The vehicle was pulled over in the Main Road, Gansbaai.

Two suspects aged 30 and 32 years old were arrested. The vehicle was searched and bags of abalone were confiscated.    The abalone was counted in front of the suspects at the Police Station and a total of 3100 units of abalone was seized worth an estimated street value of R380 000.00. A white Uno sedan was also confiscated .

A illegal possession of abalone docket was opened for investigation.   The two suspects will appear in the Hermanus Magistrates Court today on charges of illegal possession of abalone.
