Freedom Day offered the Hangklip and Kleinmond DA branches the ideal opportunity to march for some principles relating to constitutional rights, such as freedom of speech, freedom of association and freedom of choice. A stand was also taken against xenophobia. The route of the march was through several of the residential areas of Ward 10, including Riemvasmaak, Proteadorp and Overhills. The march was led by Mayor Nicolette Botha-Guthrie, member of the Western Cape Legislator Masizole Mnqasela and member of Parliament, Dr Michael Cardo, the latter two being responsible for the Overstrand consistuency in their respective representative bodies. The march was organised by Cllr Lisel Krige and her branch committee. DA members from as far as Gansbaai participated in the march.
