Deon Langenhoven, NSRI Hermanus station commander, said: "At 10h36, Sunday, 18th October, NSRI Hermanus duty crew were activated following a plea for help from a mother reporting her two children, girls aged 15 and 17, that were on a double sea-kayak and appeared to be caught in currents on the Klein River Lagoon, Hermanus, and appearing to being swept towards the Lagoon Mouth. The family are on a weekend holiday from Rondebosch, Cape Town. NSRI Hermanus duty crew responded towing the sea rescue craft Hunters Gold Rescuer but prior to arriving on the scene it was confirmed that both girls had reached land and they were safe and not injured and no further assistance was required."
