On Saturday, 17 October 2015, the Project Citizen Group went to the Provincial Parliament in Cape Town, to present their project in front of 17 other schools. This project is an initiative of the Western Cape Education Department which teaches learners how to use the Constitution, Provincial, Local and SA School laws to put together policies on school level. The Gansbaai Academia team identified Absenteeism of learners as a big problem which influences learners academic performance. The team of learners interviewed learners, parents, teachers and mr Wilson to collect statistics about the reasons for absenteeism. Our slogan was “Sharkies taking a bite out of Absenteeism”. We made a poster presentation and 5 learners presented the problem, laws applicable, class policy and action plan to the judges with much confidence. Within 2 weeks we will hear the results of this provincial competition. This photograph was taken in parliament.
The members of the Project Citizen Team are: Ms A Harding-Male, Ms M Matthews, Imadra Mabasa, Analo Yawa, Shameul Leonard, Lorenzo van der Radt, Dee-Jay Slammat, Jo-maree Joseph, Daylene v Riet, Zaidia Plaatjies.
