Crew members on duty at the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) in Hermanus launched the Sea Rescue craft, South Star, on Saturday, 1st October 2016 at 12:00 to rendezvous with the yacht Baroness.
The Baroness with a solo sailor on board reported to be adrift in windless conditions and with mechanical motor failure.
The sailor was a male from Pretoria, aged in his 50's. He was 7 nautical miles off-shore of Hermanus when NSRI members received his SOS.
On arrival on the scene the man was found safe. A towline was rigged and he was towed into the Hermanus harbour without incident.
He is reportedly sailing for Richards Bay and repairs to his yacht was attended to before continuing his trip.
