Motorists in the Western Cape, including the Overstrand area, will not be receiving a renewal notice in case their licence discs expire  on  31 December 2016.

While the National Department of Transport is in the process of transferring the electronic National Traffic Information System (eNatis) to the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) the authorities are not able to send  these  notices  to motorists. The eNatis system is currently managed centrally at the national department, which includes the issuing of motor vehicle licence renewal notices.

This transition will directly affect the thousands of motorists in the province who are required to renew their licence discs by the end of December 2016, and possibly by 31 January 2017.

Those who are affected should renew their licences timeously and motorists are urged to take these steps before the 21 days grace period ends. Motorists are urged to be pro-active in checking their licence disk renewal status, and ensuring that they renew in time to avoid penalties.

Remember to bring your South African identity document and proof of physical address.

Proof of address can include an utility bill issued by the municipality, a telephone account or retail store account (provided that it is not older than three months).
