Pensioners, farmers and registered B&B’s as well as guesthouses may qualify for special rebates on property rates. Do not forget to claim your rebate.

Are you a pensioner?

Retired and disabled persons qualify for special rebates on property rates, according to their total gross monthly household income. To qualify for the rebate: The owner/s must be a South African citizen/s; The applicant/s must be the registered owner/s; The owner/s must occupy the property as his/her/their primary residence; The owner/s must be at least 60 years of age or in receipt of a disability pension from the State; The gross monthly household income may not exceed 8 x state funded social pension per month; The property may not consist of more than one residential unit; The applicant/s may not be owner/s of more than one property. 

Are you a farmer?

Agricultural properties will be rated at the “FARMS” tariff, subject to the owner/farmer providing the Municipality with proof that the property is used for bona fide farming purposes.

Operating a registered B&B or guesthouse?

Registered B&B’s as well as guesthouses with up to 5 lettable rooms or less can apply for the following property rates rebate on the difference between business and residential rates:

1-2 lettable rooms: 100%;

3 lettable rooms:  75%;

4 lettable rooms:  50%;

5 lettable rooms:  25%.
