Pearly Beach Conservancy Meander
The Pearly Beach Conservancy hosted the Strandveld Hiking Club on its Meander along the coast and through Pearly Beach on 12 November 2022.
The Pearly Beach Conservancy invited members of the public on its 5-km Meander on September 25 to celebrate our natural heritage. A small number of walkers turned out on this busy weekend to enjoy splendid views of bright daisies, frolicking whales and expansive beaches.
The Meander starts and ends at the Herbarium in Pearly Beach, where the plant life of the village has been documented over the years. Fresh flowering specimens are displayed there every week throughout the year. The Herbarium and the Fynbos Garden were established by Heilie Mostert, who was a longstanding member of the Conservancy, when she lived in Pearly Beach. She worked very hard to get these two landmarks established in the village. On this Heritage Day weekend, it seemed fitting to pay tribute to Heilie for her conservation efforts by erecting a special plaque created in her name. She was instrumental in preserving our natural fynbos heritage for generations to come. The Pearly Beach Conservancy invites everyone to continue her valuable work in conserving our natural heritage.
Thanks to Cricket Carstens for organizing and promoting this Heritage version of the Meander and to Gerald Henrici for crafting the wooden commemorative plaque.
