Looking For Love

Kleinmond Animal Welfare Society (KAWS) is a non-profit organisation that strives to be guardian angels of all creatures great and small in the areas of Rooi Els, Pringle Bay, Betty’s Bay and Kleinmond. KAWS promotes the sterilisation of cats and dogs to curb unwanted breeding in an already overpopulated pet community. Services are aimed at low-income communities and include sterilisation, dipping, vaccinations, deworming and the treatment of animal illnesses. Furthermore, KAWS provide a safe haven for homeless animals until they are able to place them in loving homes. Relying heavily on donations and help by members of the public, KAWS also has their own charity shop where bargain hunters can shop for pre-loved goods while doing their bit for the community.

KAWS was born in 2001 out of concern for the over-population of malnourished, mange-ridden and neglected dogs within the underprivileged community of Kleinmond, by local Kleinmond resident, Yvonne Pretorius. Together with the help of the municipality, concerned members of the community and various animal-loving professionals, KAWS has now celebrated almost 20 years of pro-active pet care.
